About Us

KINNIKINNIK is the Indian name for bearberry, a sturdy creeping vine with glossy evergreen leaves, pink flowers, and persistent scarlet berries, which grows throughout the foothills and mountain slopes. It typifies growth, strength, beauty, and forest conservation.

Kinnikinnik Chapter was organized January 1914. Mrs. Winfield Scott Tarbell, State Regent, appointed Mrs. Norman M. Campbell, Organizing Regent. The charter dated December 29, 1914, records 39 names. The first gavel, made of wood from Mt. Vernon, presented by Mrs. Tarbell, is still used at each meeting.

Kinnikinnik Chapter NSDAR sponsors the Stegasaurus Society, Children of the American Revolution, in Colorado Springs. Any boy or girl who is lineally descended from a Revolutionary ancestor is eligible from birth up to age 21. For more information about joining the C.A.R., contact the Kinnikinnik Regent.
